Remember being a kid, when you would "feel" the holidays as they approached? Our teachers would decorate the school, stores would put out new displays, and some towns would even decorate their main streets.

If you enjoy holidays throughout the year, why not do something a little special at home to reflect it? Some simple ways to get into the spirit for various holidays include these:

Independence Day. Add little American flags to your existing centerpieces and flower arrangements; create a new flower arrangement by placing red and white carnations in a blue vase.

Halloween. Make votive holders by cutting the tops out of tiny pumpkins; make your own "ghosts" by placing a rolled-up sock in the center of a handkerchief and cinching in with a rubber band and drawing eyes on it. Hang these from clear plastic thread throughout your apartment.

Thanksgiving. Create a floral arrangement with a few branches retrieved from the outdoors with autumn leaves still attached; create centerpieces of walnuts and vegetables; lay gourds and pine cones on tables as free-flowing decoration.

Christmas. Wrap strands of tiny lights around your larger indoor plants; fill bowls with ornaments and set them out on your tables; cut a wreath form out of poster
